The district of Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo was founded in April 1872 in the municipality of Lençóis, round 350 km west of the province capital São Paulo. In February 1876 it ascended to a Villa, and became a town in December 1906.
According to the Imperial Mail Register (Tabella das Agencias do Correio do Imperio) of 1885, the local post office was created in 1877. Two early cancels are known. SSP-1285a (Coll. Fuad Ferreira Fo.) is a French-type, with the inscription S. CRUZ DO RIO PARDO above and the typical star between parentheses below. Dates found for 1887-1890. SSP-1285b (Coll. FM) has a circle with the inscription in carmine STA. CRUZ DO RIO PARDO. The sole copy has a date from 1894 in the centre.

Laut Verzeichnis der kaiserlichen Postämter (Tabella das Agencias do Correio do Imperio) von 1885 entstand das örtliche Postamt im Jahre 1877. Zwei frühe Stempel sind überliefert. SSP-1285a (Samml. Fuad Ferreira Fo.) ist ein Französischer-Typ, mit der Inschrift S. CRUZ DO RIO PARDO oben und dem typischen Stern in Klammern unten. Daten gefunden zwischen 1887 und 1890. SSP-1285b (Samml. FM) hat einen Kreis mit der Inschrift STA. CRUZ DO RIO PARDO in karmin. Das einzig vorhandene Exemplar trägt das Jahr 1894 in der Mitte.
