The Santa Delfina (also written Delphina) train station was inaugurated in July 1880 by the Estrada de Ferro União Valenciana in the municipality of Valença, Jacutinga Branch, round 200 km northwest of Rio de Janeiro. Santa Delfina was a small brook in the surroundings, an affluent to the Rio Preto. In 1910 the railway passed to the Estrada de Ferro Central do Brasil and remained active until 1970. Now the tracks are removed, and the station house has apparently no function (estacoesferroviarias.com.br).
The former station house was destroyed by an accidental dynamite explosion on July 10, 1912. It was rebuilt in the following year under the name Alberto Furtado, a tribute to an engineer of the railway company (museuferroviariodevalenca.blogspot.com).
According to the Imperial Mail Register(Tabella das Agencias do Correio do Imperio) of 1885, the station post office was created in 1880. Paulo Novaes (agenciaspostais.com.br) states it remained active until 1914, suggesting an office closure shortly after the station rebuilding. Two early cancels were found. SRJ-2180a (Coll. José A. Junges) has a double circle with the inscription SANTA DELFINA above and the date in the centre. Used between 1886 and 1889. SRJ-2180b (agenciaspostais.com.br) has a double circle with the inscriprion S. DELFINA above and a 8-leg star ornament below, surrounded by an oval. The dates in the centre were found for the period 1890-1900.
Der Bahnhof Santa Delfina (manchmal auch Delphina geschrieben) wurde im Juli 1880 durch die Estrada de Ferro União Valenciana eingeweiht und lag in der Jacutinga-Abzweigung im Município von Valença, gut 200 km nordwestlich von Rio de Janeiro entfernt. Santa Delfina hieß ein Bächlein in der Umgebung, ein Zufluss des Rio Preto. 1910 ging die Bahnlinie zur Estrada de Ferro Central do Brasil über und blieb bis 1970 in Betrieb. Nun sind die Schienen entfernt und das Bahnhofsgebäude hat scheinbar keine Verwendung (estacoesferroviarias.com.br).
Das erste Bahnhofshaus wurde am 10. Juli 1912 durch eine Dynamitexplosion komplett zerstört. Im darauf folgenden Jahr wurde es wiedergebaut, nun unter den Namen Alberto Furtado, wie ein Ingenieur der Bahngesellschaft hieß (museuferroviariodevalenca.blogspot.com).
Laut Verzeichnis der kaiserlichen Postämter (Tabella das Agencias do Correio do Imperio) von 1885 entstand das Bahnhofspostamt im Jahr 1880. Paulo Novaes (agenciaspostais.com.br) schreibt, es wurde 1914 geschlossen, also kurz nach der Wiedereröffnung des Bahnhofs. Zwei frühe Stempel sind überliefert. SRJ-2180a (Samml. José A. Junges) hat einen Doppelkreis mit der Inschrift SANTA DELFINA oben und dem Datum in der Mitte. Verwendet zwischen 1886 und 1889. SRJ-2180b (agenciaspostais.com.br) hat einen Doppelkreis mit der Inschrift S. DELFINA oben und einem achtzackigen Sternornament unten, das durch eine Ovale umrundet wird. Die Daten in der Mitte wurden bisher innerhalb des Zeitraums 1890-1900 gefunden.
