This Sant’Anna in southern Brazil was since August 1848 a district in the municipality of Alegrete, situated at the frontier line to Uruguay, almost 500 km west of the provincial capital Porto Alegre. In February 1857 it ascended to a villa and in April 1876, to a town. Between 1938 and 1957 the toponym was officially simplified to Livramento, but now the old denomination is back.
According to Nova Monteiro (Administrações e Agencias Postaes do Brasil Imperio, in Brasil Filatelico/RJ, 1934-5; Reprint SPP 1994-1999), the local post office was created in January 1858. Only one imperial cancel was found until now, which is certainly not the earliest one, for the recorded dates originate from the period 1880-1888. SRS-0530b (Coll. José A. Junges) has just a double circle with the inscription S.A. DO LIVRAMENTO and the date at the centre.

Nur ein Stempel der Kaiserzeit war bisher zu finden; sicherlich nicht der Älteste, denn seine Daten stammen aus dem Zeitraum 1880-1888. SRS-0530b (Samml. José A. Junges) hat einfach einen Doppelkreis mit der Inschrift S.A. DO LIVRAMENTO, dazu das Datum in der Mitte.
