From June 1864, this village was a district in the municipality of Porto de Pedras, which was located about 100 km northeast of the provincial capital Maceió. It was not until June 1960 that it was promoted to a municipality.
As Aldo Cardoso writes in Contribuição para a História dos Correios de Alagoas (Maceió, 1969), there has been a post office there since August 1880. So far, the only postmark of the imperial period is SAL-0225a (Coll. José A. Junges): a double circle with the inscription S. MIGUEL DOS MILAGRES. Only one copy seen, used without date on a D-Pedro issue of 1878.
Diese Ortschaft war ab Juni 1864 ein Distrikt im Município von Porto de Pedras, der rund 100 km nordöstlich der Provinzhauptstadt Maceió entfernt lag. Erst im Juni 1960 stieg er zum Município auf.
