The district of Nossa Senhora da Conceição do Tahim was created in May 1846 and was located on the eastern shore of Lagoa Mirim in the Município of Rio Grande, 360 km south of the provincial capital Porto Alegre. And so, it has remained to this day: an idyllic nature reserve occasionally visited by day tourists.
The local post office was established in June 1883, according to the Rio Press:
However, since the agency was not listed in the Directory of Imperial Post Offices (Tabella das Agencias do Correio do Imperio, Rio de Janeiro, 1885), it was probably not in operation immediately or for long. And in August 1886, the regional press reported the resignation of the postal employee, which can be interpreted as an indication of low mail volume in such a remote place:
No wonder that not a single postmark of the imperial period has been found so far. It must be a rarity.

Der Distrikt von Nossa Senhora da Conceição do Tahim wurde im Mai 1846 ins Leben gerufen und lag am Ostufer der Lagoa Mirim im Município von Rio Grande, 360 km südlich der Provinzhauptstadt Porto Alegre entfernt. Und so ist es bis heute geblieben: ein idyllisches Naturschutzgebiet, das gelegentlich von Tagestouristen besucht wird.
Das örtliche Postamt entstand im Juni 1883, wie aus der Rio-Presse entnommen wird:
Da die Agentur allerdings nicht im Verzeichnis der kaiserlichen Postämter (Tabella das Agencias do Correio do Imperio, Rio de Janeiro, 1885) aufgelistet wurde, war sie wohl nicht sofort oder lange in Betrieb. Und im August 1886 meldete die Regionalpresse die Kündigung des Postangestellters, was als Hinweis für ein niedriges Postaufkommen in einem so entlegenen Ort gedeutet werden kann:
Kein Wunder, das bisher kein einziger Poststempel der Kaiserzeit gefunden wurde. Muss eine Seltenheit sein.
