This is another locality of which it is not known why a post office was opened there at all. We can only assume that it was the home of an influential citizen, as this place is only known for its large fazenda. Whatsoever, Vargem do Manejo was a settlement near Vassouras, 120 km northwest of the capital Rio de Janeiro, which was never elevated to district or freguesia status.
The local post office was created in early October 1887 by moving an existing post office from São José da Rolinha, according to the Rio press:
According to Paulo Novaes (agenciaspostais.com.br), the postal agency was closed down “around 1948”. Afterwards, it is said to have been in operation again from “ca. 1957” to “ca. 1963”. The imperial postmark is VRJ-0988a (agenciaspostais.com.br): a double circle with the inscriptions VARGEM DO MANEJO above and (P. DO RIO) below. The dates in the centre of the cancel were found for 1894 to 1897.

Diese ist eine weitere Ortschaft, von der man nicht weiß, warum überhaupt vor Ort ein Postamt eröffnet wurde. Da kann nur vermutet werden, dort war ein einflussreicher Bürger zu Hause, denn dieser Ort ist lediglich durch seine große Fazenda bekannt. Wie es dem auch sei, Vargem do Manejo war eine Siedlung bei Vassouras, die 120 km nordwestlich der Hauptstadt Rio de Janeiro entfernt lag und niemals zu Distrikt oder Freguesia erhoben wurde.
Das örtliche Postamt ist Anfang Oktober 1887 durch den Umzug eines vorhandenen Postamts aus São José da Rolinha entstanden, wie die Presse aus Rio mitteilt:
Laut Paulo Novaes (agenciaspostais.com.br) wurde die Postagentur “ca. 1948” dichtgemacht. Danach soll sie wieder in Betrieb von „ca. 1957“ bis „ca. 1963“ gewesen sein. Der kaiserliche Poststempel ist VRJ-0988a (agenciaspostais.com.br): ein Doppelkreis mit den Inschriften VARGEM DO MANEJO oben und (P. DO RIO) unten. Bisherige Daten in der Stempelmitte von 1894 bis 1897.
