The district of Nossa Senhora da Penha de França de Corumbá was created in December 1840 in the Município of Meia Ponte (now Pirenópolis) and was located on the west bank of the Corumbá River, less than 200 km east of the former provincial capital of Goyaz (now Goiás Velho). In July 1849, the village was promoted to Vila, but lost its political independence in August 1863 and returned to Meia Ponte as a district. It was promoted again to Vila in June 1875, and since July 1902 it has had the status of a town, called Corumbá de Goiás since December 1943, probably to avoid confusion with the town of the same name in Mato Grosso.
Two dates of origin for the local post office were found. Firstly in August 1853, as Nova Monteiro writes in Administrações e Agencias Postaes do Brasil Imperio (Brasil Filatelico/RJ, 1934-5; Reprint SPP 1994-1999), which is confirmed by the report of the Imperial Ministry of that year:
The second opening of the post office is said to have taken place in September 1854, as reported by Nova Monteiro (op. cit.) and R. Koester (Carimbologia XIV). The earliest postmark so far is VGO-0051a, used at least from about 1877 and already presented by Paulo Ayres in Catálogo de Carimbos Brasil-Império (S. Paulo, 1937, 1942) under no. 1599:
Later postmarks of the locality probably bear the place name Corumbá, without mentioning the Vila.

Der Distrikt von Nossa Senhora da Penha de França de Corumbá entstand im Dezember 1840 im Município von Meia Ponte (heute Pirenópolis) und lag am Westufer des Corumbá-Flusses, unter 200 km östlich der ehemaligen Provinzhauptstadt Goyaz (heute Goiás Velho) entfernt. Im Juli 1849 wurde die Ortschaft zur Vila befördert, verlor aber im August 1863 ihre politische Selbständigkeit und kehrte als Distrikt zu Meia Ponte zurück. Der Wiederaufstieg zur Vila erfolgte im Juni 1875, und seit Juli 1902 hat der Ort den Status einer Stadt, die seit Dezember 1943 Corumbá de Goiás heißt, wohl um Verwechslungen mit der gleichnamigen Stadt in Mato Grosso zu vermeiden.
Zwei Entstehungsdaten fürs örtliche Postamt wurden gefunden. Erstmals im August 1853, wie Nova Monteiro in Administrações e Agencias Postaes do Brasil Imperio (Brasil Filatelico/RJ, 1934-5; Reprint SPP 1994-1999) schreibt und vom Bericht des Imperialministeriums d. J. bestätigt wird:
