The Freguesia de N. Sra. da Natividade, which had existed since August 1853, belonged to the Municipio de Campos and was located on the north bank of the Carangola, 350 kilometres north-east of the capital Rio de Janeiro. In November 1885, the town became the Vila de Natividade do Carangola, which in December 1887 became the seat of the Vila de Natividade de Itaperuna. In 1891, Natividade do Carangola became a distrito of the Vila de Itaperuna, which from December 1938 was only called Natividade and in August 1947 was again elevated to an independent município.
Two periods of operation were found for the local post office. The first began in January 1861, as P. Novaes (agenciaspostais.com.br) writes, and ended five months later, according to the regional press:

The first postmark is FRJ-1105a. The well-known illustration from P. Ayres’ Catálogo de Carimbos Brasil-Império (S. Paulo, 1937, 1942) bears the no. 1305 and could be corrected by an example from the Everaldo N. dos Santos collection:

Die seit August 1853 bestehende Freguesia de N. Sra. da Natividade gehörte zum Municipio de Campos und lag am Nordufer des Carangola, 350 km nordöstlich der Hauptstadt Rio de Janeiro. Im November 1885 wurde der Ort zur Vila de Natividade do Carangola, die im Dezember 1887 zum Sitz der Vila de Natividade de Itaperuna wurde. Im Jahre 1891 wurde Natividade do Carangola ein Distrito der Vila de Itaperuna, die ab Dezember 1938 nur noch Natividade hieß und im August 1947 wieder zu einem eigenständigen Município erhoben wurde.
Für das örtliche Postamt wurden zwei Betriebszeiten gefunden. Die erste begann im Januar 1861, wie P. Novaes (agenciaspostais.com.br) schreibt, und endete fünf Monate später, wie aus der regionalen Presse hervorgeht:
