The Freguesia de S. Joaquim de Garopaba was founded in May 1846 and belonged to the Vila de S. José, 80 kilometres south of the provincial capital Desterro (now Florianópolis). In April 1877 it was elevated to the status of a vila, but lost this status in 1923 when it became a distrito of the município de Imbituba. In December 1930, Garopaba became a distrito of the município de Palhoça and has only been an independent município again since December 1961.
As Luiz C. Fritzen writes in Agências Postais da Província de Santa Catharina durante o Império Brasileiro (Boletim AFSC no 56, Florianópolis, 2007), there was a post office there since April 1875. The oldest postmark to date is GSC-0100a (Marcio Duarte Collection):

Die Freguesia de S. Joaquim de Garopaba wurde im Mai 1846 gegründet und gehörte zur Vila de S. José, 80 km südlich der Provinzhauptstadt Desterro (heute Florianópolis). Im April 1877 wurde es zur Vila erhoben, verlor diesen Status aber 1923, als es ein Distrito des Município de Imbituba wurde. Im Dezember 1930 wechselte Garopaba als Distrito zum Município de Palhoça und ist erst seit Dezember 1961 wieder ein eigenständiges Município.
Wie Luiz C. Fritzen in Agências Postais da Província de Santa Catharina durante o Império Brasileiro (Boletim AFSC no 56, Florianópolis, 2007) schreibt, gab es dort ein Postamt seit April 1875. Der bisher älteste Poststempel ist GSC-0100a (Samml. Marcio Duarte):
