The Freguesia de N. Sra. da Conceição de Jurujuba, which has existed since May 1840, belonged to the Vila de Niterói and was located 30 kilometres east of the capital Rio de Janeiro. It became a distrito in the Município de Niterói in May 1892 and a district of the 2nd administrative zone of this municipality in March 1938.
As Paulo Novaes writes in agenciaspostais.com.br, there had been a post office there since December 1884 and the first agent was introduced in the regional press:
