Lagoa Formoza (Graceful Lake) was a district of the Vila de Patrocínio on the north bank of the Ribeirão da Babilônia, 460 km north-west of the provincial capital Ouro Preto, from June 1858. In October 1866, the municipality was assigned to the Vila de Sto. Antonio dos Patos and became the Freguesia de N. Sra. da Piedade da Lagoa Formoza in November 1880. Since December 1962, Lagoa Formosa (as it is written today) has been an independent município.
Paula Sobrinho (História Postal de Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, 1997) and R. Koester (Carimbologia XXVI) agree that there had been a post office there since February 1885. This is also confirmed by the press in Rio:

Im Oktober 1866 wurde die Gemeinde der Vila de Sto. Antonio dos Patos zugeordnet und wurde im November 1880 zur Freguesia de N. Sra. da Piedade da Lagoa Formoza. Seit Dezember 1962 ist Lagoa Formosa (wie es heute geschrieben wird) ein eigenständiges Município.
Paula Sobrinho (História Postal de Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, 1997) und R. Koester (Carimbologia XXVI) sind sich einig, dass es dort seit Februar 1885 ein Postamt gab. Dies wird auch von der Presse in Rio bestätigt:
