Morro Grande station was opened in October 1884 by the E. F. Rio Clarense railway company (Annapolis branch). It was located in the municipality of Rio Claro between the Corumbataí and Ribeirão Grande rivers, 190 kilometres north-west of the provincial capital São Paulo. The railway line was transferred to the Companhia Paulista in 1892, but returned to Rioclarense in 1896 and remained there until it was closed in 1966.
Since December 1948, the station had been in the district of Ajapi and took on this name the following year.
R. Koester writes in Carimbologia XXVII that there had been a post office there since 1886. The imperial postmark is MSP-0830a (Fig. Koester, op. cit.):

A estação ferroviária de Morro Grande foi inaugurada em outubro de 1884 pela E. F. Rio Clarense (Ramal de Anápolis). Localizava-se no município de Rio Claro, entre os rios Corumbataí e Ribeirão Grande, 190 quilômetros a noroeste da capital do estado, São Paulo. A linha ferroviária passou para a Companhia Paulista em 1892, mas voltou para a Rioclarense em 1896, permanecendo lá até o fechamento da linha em 1966.
Desde dezembro de 1948, a estação ficava no distrito de Ajapi e, no ano seguinte, assumiu esse nome.
R. Koester escreve em Carimbologia XXVII que havia uma agência dos correios no local desde 1886. O carimbo postal imperial é MSP-0830a (fig. Koester, op. cit.):

Der Bahnhof Morro Grande wurde im Oktober 1884 von der Eisenbahngesellschaft E. F. Rio Clarense (Annapolis-Zweig) eröffnet. Er lag im Município de Rio Claro zwischen den Flüssen Corumbataí und Ribeirão Grande, 190 Kilometer nordwestlich der Provinzhauptstadt São Paulo. Die Bahnlinie ging 1892 an die Companhia Paulista, kehrte jedoch 1896 zur Rioclarense zurück und verblieb dort bis zur Stilllegung der Strecke im Jahr 1966.
Seit Dezember 1948 lag der Bahnhof im Distrikt Ajapi und übernahm im Folgejahr diesen Namen.
