The settlement called Arraial de Nossa Senhora do Livramento do Valão de Barro (Village of Our Lady of Salvation at the Mud Ditch) was established in October 1861 and belonged to the Freguesia of S. Sebastião do Alto in the Município of Sta. Maria Magdalena. The village was close to the south bank of the Rio Negro, 230 km northeast of the capital Rio de Janeiro. In April 1891 it became a district, which since 1911 has been called Valão do Barro (Mud Ditch).
There was a post office there since February 1877 as Paulo Novaes writes in agenciaspostais.com.br. The first postmark ARJ-1010a was already presented by Paulo Ayres in Catálogo de Carimbos Brasil-Império (S. Paulo, 1937, 1942) under no. 1211:
Its successor ARJ-1010b (Coll. Roberto Assef Jr.) is a double circle with the inscriptions LIVRAMENTO above and (ARRAIAL) below, with inner dates from 1889 to 1897.

Die Siedlung namens Arraial de Nossa Senhora do Livramento do Valão de Barro (Dorf von Unseren Lieben Frau der Erlösung am Schlammgraben) entstand im Oktober 1861 und gehörte der Freguesia von S. Sebastião do Alto im Município von Sta. Maria Magdalena. Der Ort lag nah am Südufer des Rio Negro, 230 km nordöstlich der Hauptstadt Rio de Janeiro entfernt. Im April 1891 wurde daraus ein Distrikt, der seit 1911 Valão do Barro (Schlammgraben) heißt.
Dort gab es ein Postamt seit Februar 1877 wie Paulo Novaes in agenciaspostais.com.br schreibt. Der erste Posttempel ARJ-1010a wurde bereits durch Paulo Ayres in Catálogo de Carimbos Brasil-Império (S. Paulo, 1937, 1942) unter Nr. 1211 vorgestellt:
Sein Nachfolger ARJ-1010b (Samml. Roberto Assef Jr.) ist ein Doppelkreis mit den Inschriften LIVRAMENTO oben und (ARRAIAL) unten, mit inneren Daten von 1889 bis 1897.
