This was not the Baturité station, but the main station of the railway company Estrada de Ferro de Baturité, which was in the provincial capital Fortaleza and inaugurated in November 1873. However, because the word Fortaleza (or Ceará) does not appear in the postmark, this agency is presented here. The railway line changed hands three times: in 1909 to Rede de Viação Cearense, in 1975 to Rede Ferroviária Federal S.A. and from 1997 until its closure in 2013 it belonged to CBTU/Metrofor (estacoesferroviarias.com.br).
From 1946, the station was called Professor João Felipe, in memory of a railway engineer who was Brazil’s foreign minister. Today, the station building has been extensively restored and houses the Estação das Artes Belchior cultural centre, in honour of singer-songwriter Antonio Carlos Belchior (1946-2017), who made a name for himself not only in Ceará:
