Another name: Lagoa Funda
The parish of N. Sra. do Bom Conselho da Lagoa Funda was created in July 1885, located on the north bank of the São Francisco River in the Município of Traipu, 210 km west of the provincial capital Maceió. The village became the vila of Bello Monte in June 1886, and in May 1893 was again elevated as a district from the Município of Traipu, only to become an independent município again in July 1895.
As Aldo Cardoso writes in Contribuição para a História dos Correios de Alagoas (Maceió, 1969), there was a post office there since July 1869. So far, no imperial postmark from Bello Monte has been seen.
