Bom Jesus da Cachoeira Alegre (Good Jesus of the Happy Waterfall) was, from September 1887, a freguesia in the Município of S. Paulo do Muriaé, located 230 km southeast of the provincial capital Ouro Preto. This is how it has remained until today, although since 1923 the município has only been called Muriaé, and since December 1943 the freguesia has been shortened to Bom Jesus da Cachoeira.

The local post office is dated September 1889, a few weeks before the end of the Empire, as can be read in the postal bulletin (Boletim Postal) of the following month:

The first postmark is BMG-0335a (image from the internet): a double circle with the inscriptions BOM JESUS DA CACH^A. ALEGRE above and (M) below. The only specimen so far bears a date from 1890 in the centre.

Bom Jesus da Cachoeira Alegre (Guter Jesus des Fröhlichen Wasserfalls) war ab September 1887 eine Freguesia im Município von S. Paulo do Muriaé, die 230 km südöstlich der Provinzhauptstadt Ouro Preto entfernt lag. Und so ist es bis heute geblieben, wobei der Município seit 1923 lediglich Muriaé heißt, und die Freguesia seit Dezember 1943 den Namen zu Bom Jesus da Cachoeira abgekürzt bekam.

Das örtliche Postamt ist vom September 1889, also von wenigen Wochen vor dem Ende des Kaiserreichs, wie im Postbulletin (Boletim Postal) des Folgemonats zu lesen ist:
