Santa Rita do Paranahyba was called formerly Porto de Santa Rita, which was situated on the west bank of the Paranahyba River, round 350 km south of the ancient province capital Goyaz (now Goiás Velho). Since August 1852 a district of the municipality of Bomfim, it ascended to a villa in July 1909 and to a city in October 1915, which in December 1943 the toponym changed to Itumbiara. This tupi-guarani word means waterfall road.
We have found two different dates for the creation of the postal office. According to the imperial mail register (Tabella das Agencias do Correio do Imperio) of 1885 it took place in 1882, but this is apparently a reopening, because this agency had been presented officially as early as 1875:
Since the post office was not listed in the Postal Guide for 1880, it was supposedly closed by 1879. The oldest postmark PGO-0285a (illustration by Koester in Carimbologia XXIX) has yet to be definitively confirmed:

Santa Rita do Paranahyba era o antigo Porto de Santa Rita, situado na margem ocidental do Rio Paranaíba, uns 350 km ao sul da antiga capital provincial Goyaz (hoje Goiás Velho). Foi um distrito do município de Bonfim desde agosto de 1852, depois elevado a vila em julho de 1909 e a cidade em outubro de 1915. Em dezembro de 1943 o nome foi mudado para o atual, Itumbiara, uma palavra tupi-guarani que significa caminho da cachoeira.
Encontramos duas datas para a criação da agência postal. Segundo a Tabella das Agencias do Correio do Imperio de 1885, ela ocorreu em 1882, mas aparentemente aqui se trata de uma reabertura, pois a agência postal já tinha sido criada e apresentada oficialmente em 1875:
Como o Guia Postal do Império de 1880 não lista a agência, ela deve ter sido fechada até 1879. O carimbo postal mais antigo, PGO-0285a (fig. Koester em Carimbologia XXIX), ainda precisa ser confirmado definitivamente:

Santa Rita do Paranahyba hieß früher Porto de Santa Rita und war eine Ortschaft am Westufer des Flusses Paranahyba, rund 350 km südlich der ehemaligen Provinzhauptstadt Goyaz (heute Goiás Velho). Seit August 1852 war sie ein Distrikt im Município von Bomfim, dann stieg sie im Juli 1909 zur Villa und im Oktober 1915 zur Stadt, die seit Dezember 1943 Itumbiara heißt. Der Begriff aus der tupi-guarani-Sprache bedeutet Weg zum Wasserfall.
Zwei verschiedene Entstehungsjahre wurden für das örtliche Postamt gefunden. Laut Verzeichnis der kaiserlichen Postämter (Tabella das Agencias do Correio do Imperio) von 1885 soll es 1882 entstanden sein, doch das wäre wohl eine Wiedereröffnung, denn die Agentur wurde bereits im September 1875 offiziell angekündigt:
Da dieses Postamt nicht im Postführer für 1880 aufgelistet ist, wurde es vermutlich irgendwann bis 1879 geschlossen. Der älteste Poststempel PGO-0285a (Abb. Koester in Carimbologia XXIX) muss noch definitiv bestätigt werden:
