A passo is a river crossing point. Passo do Jacuí (today’s spelling) was located on the east bank of the river of the same name on the current municipal border between Cachoeira do Sul and Restinga Seca, 290 kilometres west of the provincial capital Porto Alegre. In 1871, a bridge with a toll booth was completed there, which was to play an important role in trade and transport in the region in the following years. During the Federalist Revolution (1893–1895), however, this bridge was so badly damaged by arson that only the pillars remain today.
According to the directory of imperial post offices (Tabella das Agencias do Correio do Imperio, Rio de Janeiro, 1885), a post office was established there in 1881, but it was closed around 1885. The main reason for the closure is considered to be the opening of the Jacuhy railway station post office (JRS-0585) 3 km further west in 1884, which rendered the old agency obsolete. No imperial postmark from Passo do Jacuhy has been found to date.

Um passo é um local de travessia de um rio. O Passo do Jacuí (grafia atual) ficava na margem leste do rio de mesmo nome, na atual divisa municipal entre Cachoeira do Sul e Restinga Seca, 290 quilômetros a oeste da capital do estado, Porto Alegre. Em 1871, foi concluída ali uma ponte com pedágio, que nos anos seguintes viria a desempenhar um papel importante para o comércio e o transporte da região. Durante a Revolução Federalista (1893-1895), porém, essa ponte foi tão danificada por um incêndio criminoso que hoje restam apenas os pilares.
Conforme consta na Tabella das Agencias do Correio do Imperio (Rio de Janeiro, 1885), em 1881 foi construída ali uma agência dos correios, que, porém, foi fechada por volta de 1885. A principal razão para o fechamento foi a inauguração, em 1884, da agência da estação ferroviária de Jacuhy (JRS-0585), localizada 3 km a oeste, que tornou a antiga agência obsoleta. Até o momento, nenhum carimbo postal imperial de Passo do Jacuhy foi encontrado.

Ein Passo ist eine Überquerungsstelle eines Flusses. Der Passo do Jacuí (heutige Schreibweise) lag am Ostufer des gleichnamigen Flusses an der aktuellen Gemeindegrenze von Cachoeira do Sul und Restinga Seca, 290 Kilometer westlich der Provinzhauptstadt Porto Alegre. Dort wurde 1871 eine Brücke mit Mautstelle fertiggestellt, die in den folgenden Jahren eine wichtige Rolle für den Handel und den Verkehr der Region spielen sollte. Während der Federalista-Revolution (1893–1895) wurde diese Brücke jedoch durch Brandstiftung so stark beschädigt, dass heute nur noch die Pfeiler erhalten sind.
Wie aus dem Verzeichnis der kaiserlichen Postämter (Tabella das Agencias do Correio do Imperio, Rio de Janeiro, 1885) hervorgeht, wurde dort im Jahr 1881 ein Postamt errichtet, das jedoch um 1885 geschlossen wurde. Als Hauptgrund für die Schließung gilt die Eröffnung des 3 km weiter westlich gelegenen Bahnhofspostamts Jacuhy (JRS-0585) im Jahr 1884, durch das die alte Agentur obsolet wurde. Bisher wurde kein kaiserlicher Poststempel aus Passo do Jacuhy gefunden.
