This is the first imperial post office that was discovered after the printing of Carimbologia (Q-R), and it apparently had a very short life, for it was announced by the press in October 1880, but has already disappeared in the Horario Postal of São Paulo for 1887:
Since there was also a Ribeira agency near Apiahy in the southern region of the São Paulo province (RSP-1076), it was necessary to check out whether both Ribeiras could be the same. The Guia Postal do Imperio for 1880 says no:
Porto da Ribeira was a freguesia with a fluvial port for the town of Iguape, located ca. 2 km south. In the second half of the 19th century the port had achieved some importance for the navigation along the Ribeira de Iguape River, and this certainly helped to create an own post office in 1880.
There is an old-fashioned cancel, formerly attributed by me to Ribeira de Apiahy, which would fit much better in the earlier agency Ribeira de Iguape. RSP-1076a (Coll. José A. Junges, former RSP-1075a) is texted A. C. RIBE(IRA) surrounded by arabesques. Only one copy was found, unfortunately not very clear, on a D. Pedro emission of 1878.

Da aber auch eine Ortschaft namens Ribeira bei Apiahy auch im Süden der Provinz São Paulo existierte (RSP-1075), kam bald die Frage auf, ob es sich nicht eventuell um den selben Ort handelte. Nein, sagt der Guia Postal do Império von 1880:
Die Freguesia von Porto da Ribeira war ein Flusshafen für die ca. 2 km nach Süden gelegene Stadt Iguape. In der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts, mit der Intensivierung des Schiffsverkehrs am Fluss Ribeira (de Iguape), entwickelte sich der Hafen derart, dass ein eigenes Postamt zum Thema wurde, das sich in 1880 konkretisiert hat.
Ein altmodischer Stempel, der zunächst Ribeira de Apiahy durch mich zugeordnet war, würde viel eher zu Ribeira de Iguape passen. RSP-1076a (Samml. José A. Junges, vormals RSP-1075a) zeigt den Text A.C. RIBE(IRA), von Arabesken umrankt. Ein einziges Exemplar bekannt, leider nicht sauber abgestempelt, auf einen D. Pedro der Ausgabe v. 1878.
