The district of Palmeira (also spelled Palmeiras) existed since May 1813 and belonged to Vila de Curitiba, located 80 kilometres to the east, which was then still part of the Capitania de São Paulo. In April 1819, the chapel of N. Sra. da Conceição da Palmeira was built, and the village became a parish around 1830.
In July 1854, Paraná became a province in its own right. In May 1869, Palmeira became a vila and in November 1897 a city.
Two periods of operation for the local post office could be determined. The first began in January 1839 at the latest, as evidenced by a newspaper report:
According to a report by the Imperial Ministry, the agency was closed in May 1847.
In February 1849, it was decided to re-establish the post office, as reported in the Rio press:
The oldest postmark to date is PSP-0145a (Silvio A. Canani collection).
The later postmark PPR-0145b (illustration Felipe Piccinini) bears the place name in the plural and also appears in blue.
Towards the end of the century, PPR-0145c (illustration from the internet) also appeared:
Desde maio de 1813 existia o distrito de Palmeira (também escrito Palmeiras), que pertencia à Vila de Curitiba, localizada 80 quilômetros a leste, e que na época ainda se encontrava na Capitania de São Paulo. Em abril de 1819 foi construída a capela N. Sra. da Conceição da Palmeira e, por volta de 1830, a localidade tornou-se freguesia.
Em julho de 1854, o Paraná tornou-se uma província independente. Em maio de 1869, Palmeira tornou-se vila e, em novembro de 1897, cidade.
Foi possível encontrar dois períodos de funcionamento para a agência dos correios local. O primeiro começou, no mais tardar, em janeiro de 1839, conforme consta em uma reportagem de jornal:
De acordo com um relatório do Ministério Imperial, a agência foi fechada em maio de 1847.
Em fevereiro de 1849, foi decidido restabelecer a agência dos correios, conforme consta de uma nota da imprensa do Rio:
