The settlement was founded around 1800 and belonged to the Vila de São José d’El-Rei. It was situated 260 km south-west of the provincial capital, Ouro Preto. In May 1855, it became the Freguesia de Bom Jesus dos Perdões and came under the jurisdiction of the Vila de Lavras. In August 1911, it became an independent municipality.
Paula Sobrinho in História Postal de Minas Gerais (Belo Horizonte, 1997) and R. Koester (Carimbologia XXX) agree that there has been a post office there since June 1877. The oldest postmark to date is PMG-1900a (Márcio Duarte collection):
In August 1896, a station on the main line of the E.F. Oeste de Minas railway company was opened there. The railway line was transferred to Rede Mineira de Viação in 1931, to V. F. Centro-Oeste in 1965, and belonged to Rede Ferroviária Federal S. A. from 1975 until its closure in 1996 (estacoesferroviarias.com.br). Today, the tracks are still in place and the station building serves as the community’s cultural centre.
Curiously, a post office was established at the station as early as September 1889, seven years before the opening of rail services. This is evident from the Postal Bulletin:

O povoado surgiu por volta de 1800 e pertencia à Vila de São José d’El-Rei. Ficava a 260 km a sudoeste da capital provincial, Ouro Preto. Em maio de 1855, tornou-se a Freguesia de Bom Jesus dos Perdões, passando a depender da Vila de Lavras. Em agosto de 1911, tornou-se um município independente.
Paula Sobrinho, em História Postal de Minas Gerais (Belo Horizonte, 1997), e R. Koester (Carimbologia XXX) concordam que havia uma agência dos correios no local desde junho de 1877. O carimbo postal mais antigo encontrado até o momento é o PMG-1900a (Coleção Márcio Duarte):
Em agosto de 1896, foi inaugurada ali uma estação ferroviária da linha principal da E.F. Oeste de Minas. A linha passou para a Rede Mineira de Viação em 1931, para a V. F. Centro-Oeste em 1965 e pertenceu à Rede Ferroviária Federal S. A. de 1975 até o fechamento em 1996 (estacoesferroviarias.com.br). Hoje, os trilhos ainda existem e o prédio da estação serve como centro cultural do município.
Curiosamente, uma agência dos correios foi instalada na estação já em setembro de 1889, ou seja, sete anos antes da inauguração do tráfego ferroviário. Isso consta no Boletim Postal:

Die Siedlung entstand um 1800 und gehörte zur Vila de São José d’El-Rei. Sie lag 260 km südwestlich der Provinzhauptstadt Ouro Preto. Im Mai 1855 wurde sie zur Freguesia de Bom Jesus dos Perdões und unterstand nun der Vila de Lavras. Im August 1911 wurde sie ein eigenständiger Município.

Im August 1896 wurde dort ein Bahnhof der Hauptlinie der Eisenbahngesellschaft E.F. Oeste de Minas eröffnet. Die Bahnlinie wechselte 1931 zur Rede Mineira de Viação, 1965 zur V. F. Centro-Oeste und gehörte von 1975 bis zur Stilllegung im Jahr 1996 zur Rede Ferroviária Federal S. A. (estacoesferroviarias.com.br). Heute sind die Gleise noch vorhanden und das Bahnhofsgebäude dient als Kulturzentrum der Gemeinde.
Seltsamerweise wurde ein Postamt am Bahnhof bereits im September 1889 errichtet, also sieben Jahre vor der Eröffnung des Bahnverkehrs. Dies geht aus dem Postbulletin hervor:
