Here we are once again dealing with a place that has since disappeared from the map. Pericumã (the modern spelling) is a river that was altered by a dam in 1982, causing the old settlement of the same name to be flooded. In September 1856, the latter was a settlement of Vila de Pinheiro, situated 120 km west of the provincial capital, São Luís do Maranhão. In July 1866, it became a district and was renamed Gama in May 1884.
According to Nova Monteiro’s Administrações e Agências Postais do Brasil Império (Brasil Filatelico/RJ, 1934–1935; reprinted by SPP 1994–1999), a post office had been in operation there since February 1860. A later date, April 1881, was reported in the Postal Report (Relatório Postal) of 1886, which was confirmed by the regional press:
To date, no imperial postmark from Pericuman has been found.

Trata-se, mais uma vez, de um local que já desapareceu do mapa. Pericumã (segundo a grafia atual) é um rio que sofreu alterações em 1982 devido à construção de uma barragem, o que resultou na inundação da antiga vila de mesmo nome. Esta última era, em setembro de 1856, um povoado da Vila de Pinheiro, localizado 120 km a oeste da capital provincial, São Luís do Maranhão. Em julho de 1866, tornou-se um distrito e, em maio de 1884, foi renomeada como Gama.
Segundo Nova Monteiro em Administrações e Agências Postais do Brasil Império (Brasil Filatélico/RJ, 1934–1935; reimpressão SPP 1994–1999), havia ali uma agência dos correios desde fevereiro de 1860. Uma data posterior, abril de 1881, foi relatada pelo Relatório Postal de 1886, o que foi confirmado pela imprensa regional:

Hier haben wir es erneut mit einem Ort zu tun, der inzwischen von der Karte verschwunden ist. Pericumã (so die heutige Schreibweise) ist ein Fluss, der 1982 durch einen Staudamm verändert wurde, wodurch die alte Ortschaft gleichen Namens überflutet wurde. Letztere war im September 1856 eine Siedlung der Vila de Pinheiro, die sich 120 km westlich der Provinzhauptstadt São Luís do Maranhão befand. Im Juli 1866 wurde sie zu einem Distrito und im Mai 1884 in Gama umbenannt.
Laut Nova Monteiros Administrações e Agencias Postaes do Brasil Imperio (Brasil Filatelico/RJ, 1934–1935; Nachdruck SPP 1994–1999) gab es dort seit Februar 1860 ein Postamt.
