Despite its name (Estação Postal), Prainha was not a railway station, but a small post office on the pier at what is now Praça Mauá in the centre of Rio de Janeiro. From there, ships carrying passengers, cargo and also post sailed through Guanabara Bay to Porto Mauá, where a connecting train to Petrópolis was waiting.
This connection between Rio de Janeiro and the summer resort town of Petrópolis was very cumbersome and lost its appeal with the development of the province’s railway lines. The station post office was opened around 1868 and closed again after 1870, as reported by P. Novaes on agenciaspostais.com.br. Apesar do nome (Estação Postal), a Prainha não era uma estação ferroviária, mas sim uma pequena agência dos correios localizada no cais da atual Praça Mauá, no centro do Rio de Janeiro. De lá, os navios partiam com passageiros, carga e também correspondência pela Baía de Guanabara até o Porto Mauá, onde um trem de conexão para Petrópolis aguardava.
Essa conexão entre o Rio de Janeiro e a cidade de veraneio de Petrópolis era muito complicada e perdeu sua atratividade com o desenvolvimento das linhas ferroviárias da província. A agência postal da estação foi inaugurada por volta de 1868 e fechada novamente após 1870, conforme informa P. Novaes no site agenciaspostais.com.br. O único carimbo postal encontrado até o momento é o PMN-2620a (ilustração de Felipe Piccinini):

Trotz des Namens (Estação Postal) war Prainha kein Bahnhof, sondern eine kleine Poststelle am Pier des heutigen Mauá-Platzes (Praça Mauá) in der Stadtmitte von Rio de Janeiro. Von dort fuhren die Schiffe mit Fahrgästen, Fracht und auch Post durch die Guanabara-Bucht bis zum Porto Mauá, wo ein Anschlusszug nach Petrópolis wartete.
Diese Verbindung zwischen Rio de Janeiro und der Sommerresidenzstadt Petrópolis war sehr umständlich und verlor ihre Attraktivität mit der Entwicklung der Eisenbahnlinien der Provinz. Das Stationspostamt wurde ca. 1868 und nach 1870 wieder geschlossen, wie P. Novaes in agenciaspostais.com.br informiert. Der bisher einzige Poststempel ist PMN-2620a (Abb. Felipe Piccinini):
