From May 1853, Pratinha (meaning ‘little silver coin’) was a district of the Município de Araxá, situated 420 kilometres west of the provincial capital, Ouro Preto. In October 1871, it became the Freguesia de Santo Antônio da Pratinha. Following the Republican coup, the town became a district of the then newly established municipality of Ibiá in September 1923, before transferring to the municipality of Campos Altos in December 1943. Pratinha has been an independent municipality since December 1948.
According to reports in the Rio de Janeiro press, the creation of the local post office took place in January 1882.
The Postal Report (Relatório Postal) for the year 1886 mentions February of that same year, which could correspond to the opening of the post office. The imperial postmark is PMG-2060a (José A. Junges collection):
Pratinha era, desde maio de 1853, um distrito do município de Araxá, localizado a 420 quilômetros a oeste da capital provincial, Ouro Preto. Em outubro de 1871, tornou-se a Freguesia de Santo Antônio da Pratinha. Após o golpe republicano, em setembro de 1923, a localidade passou a ser distrito do então recém-criado município de Ibiá e, em dezembro de 1943, foi transferida para o município de Campos Altos. Desde dezembro de 1948, Pratinha é um município autônomo.
Conforme consta na imprensa do Rio de Janeiro, a criação da agência local dos correios deu-se em janeiro de 1882.
O Relatório Postal do ano de 1886 menciona o mês de fevereiro daquele mesmo ano, o que poderia corresponder ao início das atividades da agência. O carimbo postal imperial é o PMG-2060a (coleção de José A. Junges):
Pratinha (zu Deutsch „Kleines Silberstück”) war ab Mai 1853 ein Distrikt des Município de Araxá, das 420 Kilometer westlich der Provinzhauptstadt Ouro Preto lag. Im Oktober 1871 wurde er zur Freguesia de Sto. Antonio da Pratinha. Nach dem Republikputsch wurde der Ort im September 1923 zum Distrikt des damals neu gegründeten Munizips Ibiá und wechselte im Dezember 1943 zum Munizip Campos Altos. Seit Dezember 1948 ist Pratinha eine eigenständige Gemeinde.
Wie aus der Presse in Rio de Janeiro hervorgeht, wurde die Einrichtung eines Postamts in Pratinha im Januar 1882 beschlossen.
Der Postbericht (Relatorio Postal) für das Jahr 1886 nennt den Februar desselben Jahres, was der Inbetriebnahme der Agentur entsprechen könnte. Der kaiserliche Poststempel ist PMG-2060a (Sammlg. José A. Junges):
