Piranga station was opened in December 1886 by the E. F. Leopoldina railway company, Saúde branch (later Dom Silvério). It was situated near the southern bank of the Piranga River in the municipality of Mariana, 90 kilometres east of the provincial capital, Ouro Preto. Even before the turn of the century, both the name of the station and that of the post office were changed to ‘Chopotó’, presumably to avoid confusion with the town of Piranga.
From August 1890, the station was situated in the Rio Doce district, in the municipality of Ponte Nova; from December 1938, in the municipality of Dom Silvério; from December 1943, back in the municipality of Ponte Nova; and, since October 1982, in its Rosário do Pontal district. The line was closed in June 1973. Today, the tracks have been removed; until a few years ago, the station building was used as a residential property (estacoesferroviarias.com.br).
According to reports in the Rio de Janeiro press, the station post office was created in January 1887:

A estação ferroviária de Piranga foi inaugurada em dezembro de 1886 pela E. F. Leopoldina, ramal de Saúde (depois: Dom Silvério). Ela ficava próxima à margem sul do rio Piranga, no município de Mariana, 90 quilômetros a leste da capital provincial, Ouro Preto. Ainda antes da virada do século, tanto o nome da estação quanto o da agência dos correios foram alterados para “Chopotó”, provavelmente para evitar confusões com a cidade de Piranga.
A partir de agosto de 1890, a estação passou a ficar no distrito de Rio Doce, no município de Ponte Nova; a partir de dezembro de 1938, no município de Dom Silvério; a partir de dezembro de 1943, novamente no município de Ponte Nova; e, desde outubro de 1982, no distrito de Rosário do Pontal, pertencente a esse município. A linha foi desativada em junho de 1973. Hoje, os trilhos foram removidos, e o prédio da estação ainda servia, há poucos anos, como residência (estacoesferroviarias.com.br).
Conforme noticiado pela imprensa do Rio de Janeiro, a agência dos correios na estação foi criada em janeiro de 1887:

Der Bahnhof Piranga wurde im Dezember 1886 von der Eisenbahngesellschaft E. F. Leopoldina, Zweig Saúde (später Dom Silvério), eröffnet. Er lag nahe dem Südufer des Piranga im Munizip Mariana, 90 Kilometer östlich der Provinzhauptstadt Ouro Preto. Noch vor der Jahrhundertwende wurden sowohl die Bezeichnung des Bahnhofs als auch die des Postamts zu „Chopotó” geändert, wohl um Verwechslungen mit der Stadt Piranga zu vermeiden.
Ab August 1890 lag der Bahnhof im Distrikt Rio Doce, Munizip Ponte Nova, ab Dezember 1938 im Munizip Dom Silvério, ab Dezember 1943 wieder im Munizip Ponte Nova und seit Oktober 1982 im dessen Distrikt Rosário do Pontal. Die Linie wurde im Juni 1973 stillgelegt. Heute sind die Gleise entfernt, das Bahnhofsgebäude diente noch vor wenigen Jahren als Wohnhaus (estacoesferroviarias.com.br).
Wie die Presse aus Rio de Janeiro mitteilte, wurde die Einrichtung eines Bahnhofspostamts im Januar 1887 beschlossen:
